The linear path method was to basically carry on the tower and keep playing in the same game style. This not changing anything for the player, so they don't have to get used to 2 different game modes while playing 1 board game.
The multiple path based board was to create a new gaming style for the players to learn and play. This also created a randomization element to the game so players can play the game differently and choose which route they want to go.
These were my set goals in developing these base designs for the board.
